Starting from external applications

Interfaces from external applications may make calls requesting that certain user information content be:

• Displayed in the Knowledge Builder Tool itself, or
• Returned to the calling application for display in its own interface.

ATTENTION It is up to the calling application to determine how you will access the Knowledge Builder, and where the requested content will be displayed. See the following topics for examples of external application access. Example of starting Knowledge Builder from external applications

The Knowledge Builder may be started from external Honeywell and non-Honeywell applications. These applications may elect to:

• Simply start Knowledge Builder and display the main start-up interface
• Start Knowledge Builder and initiate the display of certain tools (e.g. Search tool)
• Start Knowledge Builder and request that it display certain user information content.

For example, on the Help menu in Control Builder shown in the following figure, you can click Knowledge Builder to open the Knowledge Builder with its default Contents tab active; or click Knowledge Builder Search to open Knowledge Builder with its Search tab active.

External applications may also request access to user information content, normally hosted within the Knowledge Builder, for display in their own interface. For example, on the Hardware View of the Honeywell Assetmax Alert Manager Application shown in the Figure below, clicking on the Knowledge Builder child node of the CIOMA_DI_3 hardware node displays the Knowledge Builder's QuickNav page for that device.
